I just got up about ten minutes ago, as I was playing cat midwife until after 7 this morning.
Getting to sleep was difficult because the bedroom collects heat rather badly; therefore, I was sitting on the couch in the (blessedly cool, thanks to AC) living room/library and starting to crochet a stuffed chicken cat toy after
vatine went to bed. The main reason I started in on another relaxing project was that Smoke had decided to lie next to me on my main project of the moment, a half-finished afghan, as she loves to do.
Just as I was thinking of going to bed, she started behaving peculiarly, so I thought I'd stay put for a while, just in case she was going into labor. Pretty quickly, it became obvious that was precisely what was going on. On that afghan on the couch, of course. ;) (Ah well, it will wash.) Smoke really seemed to appreciate being stroked and talked to, though she actually stayed far calmer about the strange goings-on and pain than Bungee did when I stayed with her more than 10 years ago.
I woke Ingvar up about a quarter past four to let him know that the first kitten had arrived. Already about to drop over, I thought it best to stay until the last one was born, just before 7. (Well, there may have been more which weren't palpable as lumps, but I was honestly about to keel over, and things had gone well so far.)
So, now there are three terribly precious kittens--two grey and one black; all with eensy white paws, two with white spots under their chins, and a grey one with a white tail tip. Had I not seen the kitties' blue-grey grandmother, that color would have been slightly surprising. Nobody resembles that awful marmalade cat who has been hanging around, and who came into the house and chased Smoke around and attacked her until Mirrors pulled out clumps of his fur and succeeded in driving him onto the patio, at least. The orange thing was the only cat I saw hanging around.
Yay, kitties!

Date: 2005-07-18 12:54 pm (UTC)Actually, I just took some photos of the little ones, but it will be at least a few days' delay, since neither of us has gotten around to buying a digital camera. Some will be online soon, though.
