urocyon: Grey fox crossing a stream (Default)

I'm less dizzy today, so am fiddling around here instead of getting stuff done. :) Actually, I'm waiting for Sugar and the Gang's tank to drain some through the hose before I get in there with the bucket and gravel vac, but there are a lot of clothes that need washing, etc.

And now I'm spending time getting more fish videos up on YouTube. :)

Yesterday I was very sleepy and dizzy, not having fully recovered from the nightmare trip out Wednesday evening. Thank goodness the rain has melted off the rest of the packed down, repeatedly refrozen snow on the sidewalks, so I shouldn't have trouble hoofing it to Lidl later. Wednesday, we were low on food, so I headed off to Sainsbury's, and it was an accessibility nightmare. Our side of the road, which doesn't get much sun this time of year, had at least 2" of packed down crap still, which was even glassier and nastier in the late afternoon from futilely trying to melt again. I was very glad that I had (a) a good bit of experience walking in ice, including with crutches, (b) a stick, (c) lots of fences to hold onto with the free hand--they do have their uses, after all :), and (d) no worse mobility problems than some dizziness and a dodgy knee! Hopefully, people with worse mobility issues stayed in and got groceries delivered. It's only about a mile down there, but I was overloaded enough by the time I headed home--not on foot, any more than required!--that I almost shut down and fell asleep on the bus. At the best of times, my large motor coordination is such that I have to take conscious care, but that was truly awful in terms of the sustained concentration needed. It had refrozen by the time I got to the bus stop, with the sun down for a while, so that it wasn't as treacherous while carrying shopping.

And, being in that shape after I got home, I managed to splash boiling tomato sauce up into my face (not even simmering, at a rolling boil). Much bellowing and sticking heads under faucets resulted. Even after fairly quick application of ice, I've still got triple-antibiotic slathered blisters around one eyebrow and on that side of the forehead. Good thing I was wearing glasses. So that was distracting in a stinging way yesterday, too. I ended up shutting down and having to take a nap yesterday afternoon. Not much got done.

But today is looking much better, thank goodness. :) Besides doing an overdue water change on Sugar's tank, I'm hoping to wash some clothes and get out shopping again. Pushing too hard is probably not a good idea.
