An addition to the previous entry: while Smoke was away eating, I put the afghan with kittens in a shallow box, as I've been a bit worried that they might manage to crawl off the couch. Smoke seems pleased enough with the change.

It's good that she associates your smell (the afghan) with feeling secure - she'll likely put up with going wherever you put her choice of bedding :-)

Good point--before long I think I'll try moving the box from a used piece of furniture, since the fuzzy, cozy afghan seems to be what she wants.

Come to think of it, the smell, besides comfort, may well have had something to do with what my other cat chose as a cushion: she pulled a washed silk jacket, which was due a cleaning, down into the floor of my bedroom closet. :)
