Jul. 17th, 2004 10:11 amHere's an excellent bit of thought from
robkaiote on the more recent batch of torture in Iraq. I wish I could have expressed my similar train of thought as well.
Prompted by a recent post to
hipdomestics, I made some soap gel for laundry last night, like my mom was big on making for a while. Easy, cheap (particularly using up soap scraps), gentle on the skin, and environmentally sound--what's not to like? Well, besides trying to find borax here. I'm used to being able to find two- or three-pound boxes of the stuff in every supermarket, but after some Googling, I found out that it's becoming harder to locate in chemists here. I did find an independent chemist not terribly far away--okay, about a mile and some--on Mawney Road--that said on the phone that they had borax. What they really had was little boxes of boric acid; the pharmacist may well be right, that they're the same thing, but eensy boxes aren't so useful (or cost-effective) when one needs a cupful per smallish batch of laundry soap. They did have kilo bags of washing soda for 89p, however, and it works just as well. *beam* So I spent too long melting the soap up last night, and we now have a little bucket full of laundry soap with tea tree oil.
Exciting stuff, that. ;)
