The strangest things will tip one over. I'd been wondering for a while if it might not be a good idea to try again to look into the (excellent-looking) possiblity of having CFS or fibromyalgia--my symptoms were dismissed the one time I mentioned them to my old GP--particularly since they've become more "acceptable" diagnoses, and my mother was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia. What interested me further, though, was reading about the frequent connection between PTSD and CFS/fibromyalgia symptoms, presumably because one gets completely wrung out from the constant tension.

Actually, it rather surprised me that I hadn't run across a reference to this link before. I've been told more than once that I have glaringly obvious PTSD, even working around the strange DSM-III guidelines (at that point), but have really only done very surface research. Strange for me. No wonder I got a minor kick out the title of one site I ran across: Everything you wanted to know about PTSD but were too traumatised to ask. *g* I also thought it was interesting to find that persistently elevated cortisol levels (from stress or otherwise) can damage the hippocampus; perhaps there's a good reason I've felt duller in some areas, and have not been imagining things.

No, I don't intend to turn this into a catalogue or running commentary of my health; please excuse. :)

Why not? That's what we're doing . It's winter, we're all allowed to talk at length about our poor health.

Ah, but the posts cited aren't humorless, rather depressing ones. This tends to make a difference. (Though this person, at least, under the influence of some sort of flu, does tend to lose some humor quotient. *g*)

Is your throat doing better? Try some mint tea with plenty of honey. Even if it doesn't help remarkably, the taste is worth it, IME. :)

I'm not surprised by this...I know many women with CFIDS/FMS and a good number do suffer from PTSD from events that took place before their symptoms. I don't have PTSD, but I do tend to have elevated cortisol levels....I think that my allergies are the primary stessor, along with a tendency take on stressful tasks, revel in the stress, and just plain stress out about every little thing, that has led to my CFIDS.

Interesting.

My, does that sound familiar. *wry smile*
