I just tried to go to the card service section of www.capitalone.com, to see if my last payment had posted yet, to no avail. The site redirected to www.web1000.com. Oops. Looks like someone in Richmond is out of a job.

The web 1000 thing is actually a browser exploit, not a site hack -- I'm not sure of the details, but it does something like send you to that URL every time you leave off the "www" part of a web site.

Google for CoolWebSearch or something like that.

Thanks for the heads-up. After Googling, though (both on CoolWebSearch and on Web1000), I wasn't entirely sure it fit. Also, I entered the URL using the pull-down menu of frequently used addresses--including the www bit--in both Galeon and Mozilla Firebird. It may well be what you suggest; all I know is that it's very weird. And the site was just working when I checked, accessed the same way, a couple of minutes ago.

Haven't heard from you in a long time (or kept up with LJ too well, for that matter). How have things been going?
