Yow. Related to my post of this morning, now I feel bad. Certainly I was attempting to work within the system, but I can't think of a better alternative for situations like that.

Having read it now, I do see a huge difference: not actively harming anyone. It sounds like you managed the best possible outcome: a minimum of harm all around.
