Snow! With pics.
Feb. 2nd, 2009 02:49 pmWe're still getting snow. There was about 6" out there, at last check, maybe a little more. This wouldn't be thrilling back home, but it just doesn't happen much here. Last night they were forecasting the most snow in six years. :)
It's been interesting, watching people's reactions. Anything that brings out wonder and playfulness in adults who usually try too hard to be serious is good, IMO! A while ago, I was grinning, watching a couple of the HSS guys across the street, playing in the snow and getting into snowball fights in the parking lot. One man going by had to join in for a few minutes. :) They were out there for at least an hour, that I noticed, and may come back out after they get warmed back up.
In the adjoining parking lot, where a motorcycle training school is generally set up, there was a huge mixed group of kids at the same time, and they looked to be having a great time. They were just playing, making snow angels and having snowball fights, instead of trying to play a rather precocious version of the mating game. This was unusual behavior here, which I was glad to see. Anything that gets mixed groups of kids out just being kids together is similarly good!
The side street looked different when I got up. You can't see the kid's snowball, after all.

Fun at HSS. This is from the front window, so you'll just have to imagine the little stick men chucking snowballs. :)

The patio also looked different.

I had to go out and melt a hole in the pond ice with the kettle, so the poor fishies could have some gas exchange. The blurring here is from falling snow.

Charlie (a.k.a. Churl, for a reason) from next door just can't believe it. Even though Punkin really despises him, and jumps on him at every opportunity, I had to let him in the warm for a while. He looked so pathetic lurking in the planters like that.

Mirrors has been madly dashing in and out of the house all day, and scrabbling at the patio door to get it really dirty. Mama was cruel and brought out the camera, instead of letting the poor boy in immediately. Ah, the pathos.

Mirrors has been an excitable dementaboy enough already, recently. His sap must be rising, neutered or no. :/ My legs bear witness.

Yep, that is my patellar tendon sticking out these days. Erk.
And yes, my lower legs are kinda splotchy, which shows up more now that the tan's mostly gone. In spite of the low base melanin levels, I still get very noticeable post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Since it eventually goes away except on my legs and feet, it's not bothersome enough to try to do anything about. (For the best of the genetic lottery, it also shows up after KP and eczema. :/)

And, anticipating requests, here's a closer shot of the tattoo.

It's a very watery triskele. I would get the white touched up again, but I did just a couple of years ago. Note to self: well as it shows up on your skin, don't rely on white ink to actually stick around for long.
It's not all snow, after all. But the last one is snow related. The cute little potted Narcissus in the kitchen window are probably glad to be behind double glazing. As is the venus flytrap in spring growth!

There may be more pics later. I'm going to have to put on my boots and trot down to the Brewery, in search of some Nurofen Plus, besides still enjoying playing with the newish replacement camera (for one I managed to leave in a rental car at Dulles). After the ridiculous spill I took this morning, it seems like a good idea! I somehow managed to get the pointy edge of an open aquarium cabinet door in the middle of my back, which didn't do much for the muscles above or below. At least it didn't collapse the cabinet or anything! *shudder*
(Edit: Ingvar just called, and is going to stop on his way in. I still need to go out and play in the snow.)
Of course, that just gives me an excuse to go mess around in the snow. As if I needed one.
