Aug. 18th, 2006 03:42 pmWell, my mobile phone would be overheating if they were prone to doing so, with me playing kitten pusher today. The response to our Loot ad has been actually rather surprising. The little bluecream girl was gone by noon, and three more bunches of people are supposed to come by later--so far. Not that they needed much advertising besides themselves; two different people have stopped to look at them playing (once when they'd worryingly managed to sneak under the fence and into the front garden) and made serious inquiries. The Fuzzmonster blue boy was one of them, though he came dragging in again about feeding time Wednesday night. The people who took him live just up the street, and collected him again today after seeing the notice I posted by the gate.
Possibly the strangest comment today: "Why are you selling the kittens? Do you just want to sell them, or is anything wrong with them?" Erm, yes, they are all homicidal though desperately ill.
I'm still not entirely comfortable with the idea of selling my friend's babies, actually. It does seem a reasonable idea from the perspective of far too many people considering animals worth what they pay for them, and does provide some show of good faith. £30 is obviously very little compared to the ongoing cost of keeping an animal. Though I do understand the arguments for charging, I'm still uncomfortable with it.
Now I am waiting for some people to come by and look at Phillip. I have been a bit surprised how many people have asked specifically by color and sex. The blue boys seem particularly popular. (These folks are really coming to see "the blue boy".) I may have a fondness for torties, but want to play with all the kittens a bit to help me decide by personality, rather than specifically choosing one by appearance, sight unseen. To tell the truth, I am almost hoping these people don't like the little boy for some reason; he's my favorite of the bunch. Particularly if they are mostly interested in his coat. *shakes head* (Obviously, if I just don't like someone, they're not getting a kitty, though it hasn't come to that so far.)
Edit: Phillip is gone, but the Fuzzmonster is back, not under his own steam this time. The landlord apparently made a surprise visit. The people did strike me as maybe not the brightest bulbs, though good with cats. He is not going anywhere else, at least for today.
A very strange (and rude) man saw that fellow leaving with Phillip, so stopped to ask about the kittens because someone advised him to get a cat to take care of a mouse problem coming from the vacant flat next door. I did not need to offer a flat refusal, as he was set on a white kitten. Perhaps they're better at frightening mice away with their smell, according to plan. I was kind, and did not suggest that a captured Manky Fox might better serve that purpose, with no out-of-pocket costs even for A&E visits.
