Apr. 16th, 2004 03:24 amRight now, I'm feeling like there's some possibility that I may be close to ready to leave tomorrow evening (this evening, by the time I've gotten this posted). We'll see how long this lasts, once I start actually flinging things into suitcases. :) Deep down, I must enjoy the adrenaline rush from rushing around at the last minute, or I probably wouldn't make such a habit of procrastination.
This afternoon, I went for a haircut. Being more presentable is good. Thank goodness Sheila wasn't booked up when I called yesterday. Funny how much better everything can look, just having approximately three tons of shaggy, bushy hair removed.
Sid in tow, we stopped by El Michoacán for lunch. It's apparently been open about two months now, but none of us had noticed it until its name turned up on some coupons earlier in the week. I almost wished we hadn't gone trying new restaurants--the food was excellent, the menu more promising than usual, and I wouldn't mind going back there. :) No Tecate to be had (yet, at least; they may still be trying to get the ABC license), but an extremely satisfying lunch.
Stuffed to the waddling point, Mom and I did some shopping. If an article of clothing doesn't like me when I've had much to eat, better to know in advance so I'm not tempted to buy it. ;) Leaving did provide an excuse, again, to pick up a few rather boring pieces of clothing. Besides them and some miscellaneous small items, I got a pair of sparkly shoes and a more suitable bag for Saturday, along with a pair of sandals on sale. Unfortunately, I got dates thoroughly confused and thought I had an extra day in there, or I'd never have booked a flight to arrive on the day of someone's wedding. :/
I was glad I'd already tucked my passport into my bag. In one store, I only realised I'd managed to leave the little purse with my cards and driver's license at home when the clerk asked to see ID with a check. That was the first time in at least a year anyone had asked. After much shuffling and irritation at myself for an apparent extra trip home and back--the lady was relentless--I remembered that I did have some ID, after all. :)
I have stacks of clean clothes and (I think) everything else I need to transfer to luggage. I look semi-reasonable now. Next week, my mom is going to look into getting Bungee's PETS certification underway, so she can come over ASAP.* It looks like I'm as set to leave as I'm going to be. *shiver*
* I'd have done this myself, and much earlier, but the grouchy old thing was supposed to stay here until I started blubbing about it earlier in the week.

Date: 2004-04-16 05:03 am (UTC)Meep. I still miss some restaurants and such back in Tel-Aviv. Mostly for the familiarity (and the prices, too - things can be more expensive here).
Yay for new clothes, even boring ones.
*hugs*

Date: 2004-04-16 10:19 am (UTC)the thing I miss most about the UK is not particular restaurants, but particular foodstuffs - especially chocolate and bacon :)

Date: 2004-04-17 02:25 am (UTC)I know what you mean about the familiarity. I have a few favorite restaurants I suspect I'll miss a bit, especially the ones I've gone to with friends a lot. Attaching some sentimental value to restaurants may be a bit odd, but hey. :)
The clothes aren't that boring, I just didn't think a detailed list would be too interesting to anyone else. Yes, yay for clothes!

Date: 2004-04-17 02:37 am (UTC)As mentioned in my previous comment, I suspect I may miss a few favorite restaurants with some sentimental value attached, strange as it may sound. :) I'm already pretty sure I'll miss some foods which aren't as readily available (or unavailable, in some cases) there. My mom has already half-joked about sending care packages of nonperishable things. *g*
