Feb. 22nd, 2004 01:08 pmjust took the dialect-based Yankee or Dixie quiz, and turned up "81% (Dixie). Did you have any Confederate ancestors?". (Erm, yes, along with a couple who fought for the Union and one who hid out in the woods the whole time out of general stubbornness--perhaps not so surprising from a fellow known as "Cussing Gus"*. *g*)
gwynn_aaron made a good point, in that the author really could offer more regional choices; given just the small sample of stated information on vocabulary distribution, the chosen division seems less than useful. Not that "useful" is necessarily the goal of a little quiz, but the possible results could easily have been made more interesting. I must also throw in a little griping about the sort of planning which results in a quiz that won't allow one to change an answer without resetting the whole thing.
