I managed to miss my flight Thursday evening, so I'm still in the UK. It may have been for the best, given the lovely blackout which would have started while we were in the air. The series of delays was really rather odd; I may have a general problem with running late, but never before for something important like heading for the airport.

Though I got a little upset Thursday, I'm actually not complaining. Nobody else seemed to be upset, and there are far worse places to be stuck. I do have somewhere to stay with good company--company I wasn't so keen on leaving in the first place. My mother had to remind me of the thought of this having happened instead on the horrible trip before Christmas, and I wished she hadn't; still, it provides quite a contrast. *g*

I should know more later today about going home. My mom is handling the arrangements for a return ticket so far as possible, and I think things should be far more stable with regards to the blackout today; she thought it was better to wait a day or two to book anything. So, we'll have to see.

Oh yes--I am beginning to wonder how long it should take to recover from the ultra-hot-weather sleep deficit. It's been cooler for days now, and I slept like a dead creature again last night. I don't recall needing more than a night or two in past to make up for that sort of thing. I must say, about the last thing I expected was for the London area to feel like Charlotte (a.k.a. Hell, at least in summer). That was quite disconcerting, besides generally unpleasant.

Hey! I really should pay more attention to LJ, but I've been kind of distracted. No, I'm still in the UK thanks to all sorts of fun with trying to transfer money to pay for the return ticket. (It's really getting ridiculous; I thought I could do it today, but my second transfer hasn't been credited yet!) At least it did turn out that I can exchange my ticket for 200UKP instead of having to pay US$800+ for a new one at the last minute. Of course, being here an extra week, I'm broke--that's why the transfer. But hopefully I should be getting home within a couple of days...not that I mind the company or anything. *g*

hello. I found your journal whilst looking up users that list Melungeons as an interest. There are very few. And then I noticed that we have a friend in common. So I thought I'd say hi.
I am interested as to why people list Melungeons as an interest. Is it something you take an active interest in, or did you just read about them in amagazine or something?
Any way I thought I'd ask...

Yes, I noticed how few people do list it as an interest, which surprised me a little. I mainly included it because a lot of my family is Melungeon or from similar "tri-racial isolate" groups (I detest that term!), and I've become rather interested in genealogy and generally learning more about my heritage. Particularly the bits that various people have tried to cover up. :) Out of curiosity, what's your interest?

I was reading a book by Bill Bryson recently, and he mentioned Melungeons and how nobody seems entirely sure where they came from. He has this way of talking about things that just makes me really interested - so I've been trying to find out more. I find it very interesting that nobody knows very much, but I've been unable to find out much either.

What bits have people tried to cover up?!
