May. 14th, 2003 07:35 amI suspect that I missed a rather important (to me, at least) call earlier. I was busy outside, and my dad answered the phone.
Now, to put it mildly, my dad is a bit eccentric. Since I do have a bit of anxiety dealing with the phone at times, and most of the calls I receive from people whose voices he doesn't recognise come from telemarketers and the like, his general policy is to screen them rather aggressively. It's hard to predict if the man is going to tell people that I'm not home or that they've reached a wrong number. Add to this the fact that his telephone answering voice has actually made a couple of my good friends nervous in past. All this is something I've come to accept and frequently find amusing.
He was also oblivious to the reason I wanted to make a return trip to England, until my mother mentioned something about it this/yesterday afternoon; according to Mom, he said that he'd assumed that I wanted to burn down the ex's house or something of the sort. I hope the man was not entirely serious, but it can be hard to tell. *g* (If it's not something that's explained directly to him, even if conversations have been going on around him, he's unlikely to pick up on such things.) When he became aware of this, he mentioned the phone call in an, "Oh, that might explain it," manner. From his description of the voice, I can't really think of anyone else it could have been. (Though, to eliminate a more distant possibility, I have e-mailed Clarecraft to make sure everything is fine with the ticket order I finally faxed in; perhaps someone from there called, given the timing. I've no idea if anyone there sounds "vaguely Swedish", though. *g*)
I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't get to take the call, but the whole thing is still rather funny, at least knowing my dad. *g* (I'm also rather gratified that he apparently thought to give me a call while on vacation.)
