urocyon: Grey fox crossing a stream (Default)

It's a very pleasant afternoon here, if a little hot. (Just over 80F, which feels relatively hot in this climate!) Now I'm trying to pry myself away from the keyboard to get out in it. :) We need some essentials (like cheese and tea), so I'm planning to run through the shower, remember to put on some SPF 8, and head off to the Sainsbury's which isn't the closest one but is well set up for Max to wait outside for a few minutes. My psoas aren't acting up as much today, so I think the walk will be fine for me. I'd better eat some more and take some pain medication before setting off, though, to head off more pain-spasm-pain.

He should enjoy the little over a mile each way walk, especially with his water bottle along. (Not to mention Mommy taking him out for the first time in a couple of weeks!) Staffies are pretty prone to overheating, and his coat is mostly black. So far today, he's been spending his time again shifting between lying in the sun and shade on the patio, which has been both interesting and cute to watch. :)

Getting some more sun will be a bonus for me. I still feel a little silly with this, but I've been glad for tanning easily again. With the exposure so far this spring, I'd hardly call it a tan, but I've got back enough color that I'm feeling more like myself. I had no idea I could get as pale as I do over a British winter. And I spent several years on meds that made me photosensitive and prone to overheating, back in Virginia; it's still hard to avoid some level of sun exposure. My situation isn't as extreme as one woman from South Carolina on an expats forum several years back, who thought she was sort of a medium brown until she'd lived in the UK for a year--and found out that she was kind of sallow with a bunch of freckles she didn't even know she had. (Two weeks in the south of France made her feel like herself again. I can't say that doesn't sound tempting at times.) But the difference has still been disconcerting, and I'm glad I've been supplementing vitamin D with cod liver oil! Better take advantage of the sun while it's here. Getting some of the bilirubin burned off has been making me feel better too.

A hopefully unnecessary clarification: there's nothing wrong with being pale. I'm just not used to this level on myself.
