Some 20-year-old guy at
VMI asked me out tonight, being fully aware of my age, then apparently wanted me to drive to Lexington to see him this weekend. Er, it was just about amusing enough to play along without the driving-two-hours bit. (I mean, really--20, VMI--the mind boggles!)

Date: 2003-03-26 02:41 am (UTC)The age difference itself is not necessarily a problem. When, as in this instance, you get the strong impression that the other person is more interested in approaching you as someone "More Experienced", perking up when he finds out about the age difference, than as an individual with whom he really seems to have very little in common, there is a problem. When one party starts making assumptions, that's where trouble seems to start. It sounded like that was precisely what I was doing, but I was reacting (rather badly) to his somewhat insulting "eager to scale the mountain" attitude. My best moment? Probably not.
Eliminate anyone over 18, based solely on age? Haven't done so myself, wouldn't suggest that you do so even if I had. :)
