Would anyone within even vaguely reasonable driving distance of SW Virginia be willing to adopt a 15-year-old Lab/pit mix who needs to spend most of her time inside over the winter? I am very willing to deliver her, along with supplies.

It is quite literally making me sick that the situation here has deteriorated to the point that B.B. needs to find a new home, pronto. My stepdad is shortly going to be unable to take care of the animals. My uncle and his family will be able to adopt my Bungee kitty (almost exactly the same age as B.B., though not showing it nearly as much) but allergies prohibit keeping B.B. in the house. [livejournal.com profile] vatine and I got her microchipped a couple of years ago, planning to bring her to the U.K., but thought better of it at that point given her age. Neither one of them was a good candidate for a transatlantic move, unfortunately. Even if I felt like moving the B. was a good idea, there would still be the 6-month wait to consider. :/ I assumed they would continue to have a good home, but things have not worked out that way.

B.B. is one of the sweetest souls I've ever known. Her Lab hyperactiveness has mellowed a lot--for people who've met her and been jumped up on :)--but is very well socialized by now, and she seems content most of the time to lie somewhere warm and soft, preferably with her head in a friendly human lap. She's calm on a leash these days, and enjoys shortish walks. She's getting creaky enough in the cold weather these days--especially since she doesn't have the thicker Lab coat--that I crocheted her a sweater for walks and have started giving her an aspirin in a treat twice a day, but she's pretty healthy otherwise. She and Bungee grew up together from the time they were tiny, so she doesn't just get along well with cats, but actively loves them. She has never been aggressive toward other dogs, and is very gentle with anything she considers to be a baby--to the point of trying to groom squirrels and letting the neighbors' 6-month-old great lummox of a Lab puppy, who is bigger than B.B. now, treat her so roughly that Ingvar and I have both needed to intervene.

I hate that it's become necessary to separate the Dynamic Duo, but I am afraid that without a warm place and some TLC (returned tenfold, at least), B.B. will be miserable if she makes it through the winter. I must be honest and say that, the way her age has caught up with her these last couple of years, she may only be around for a couple more. Having even that amount of time to spend with her is more than worth the eventual grief, however.

It makes me very upset indeed that she is getting caught in the middle of a bad situation of human making, and that I can't take her straight home with me. I would be very grateful if anyone could pass the word along, if you even think you know someone who might be interested in giving B.B. a good home.

Here from [livejournal.com profile] green_knight. Can't adopt, will help transport from northern terminus of I-83. Heck, if you find a rescue up north, there's already a network in place.

Thanks, I do appreciate it! It turns out, thank goodness, that she will have a new home with my uncle's family, after all.

Yay! That's good to hear. As I said in [livejournal.com profile] green_knight's journal (I also ended up here from there), though I still know people there, I don't know any who I'd expect to be wanting a dog and able to take care of her.
