Jan. 26th, 2007 06:54 pmThis morning the little kitchen windowsill tank gained four Red Cherry Shrimp and six or seven of what I think are Amano Shrimp. Snail Shop lists the latter as "Striped Algae Shrimp", so they may well be some closely related species or hybrid. Four red ramshorn snails ("Waldoes" around here, from their ability to blend into Dorset gravel!) also went in.
It hadn't really occurred to me to keep freshwater shrimp before. They looked interesting in the fish store, but I suppose I thought they were harder to take care of than they apparently are. They should be happy in that new tank now, with the amount of algae it has grown, and plenty of java moss to hide in!
With any luck, we will get another betta in there soon, but the shrimp have been fascinating to watch today.
