More joys of home ownership
I haven't had a lot of time or energy for writing lately. There's been a decent bit of progress on the decluttering front, and we've managed to maintain what's been cleared pretty well so far. *crosses fingers* and that has actually freed up more spoons. Just not having the overloading visual noise and worry has helped a lot!
The post I've been meaning to write hasn't materialized yet, but here's an excellent thread with some points that have been important to me, pretty much in line with my last blog post: Redistributing our time ... Running across that one was timely, since I'd been starting to reach some of the same conclusions. It's all about balance, and what works--and what I was doing definitely wasn't working. :/
The past couple of days have been pretty busy, with a much-needed DIY project. Very possibly the same person who did such a great job on the floors also painted the radiators, and big chips of paint were starting to peel off and let the metal rust. So we ended up hoofing it to Homebase both yesterday and today, with an unplanned side trip to B&Q today. Max enjoyed it, at least. :)
Enough paint was falling off that we were hoping to be able to scrape and wire brush it off without using fume-laden paint stripper. Bzzt, wrong. So today we picked up a too-small jar of not-so-toxic Great Strip gel paint stripper.
The results were underwhelming. The reason the jar was too small was that it's only enough for one application, and this job would need at least two more! And it was/is really stinky and headache-inducing anyway. At least that gave us a good excuse to head out to an Asian buffet place, instead of trying to cook and eat with the fumes. ;)

Even Punkin looks unimpressed.
Description: Radiator with 75% of the paint still on it, and patches of old primer showing through. Our one-eyed cat is lying in the floor under it and staring at me, looking disgusted.
That's with a lot of scraping. So, it's back to either Homebase or B&Q tomorrow for the nastier Nitromors we were trying to avoid. (I'm the one with chemical sensitivities, and also the one who's really fed up with messing with the crap we bought today!) At least we're already prepared.

What a great look!
Description: yours truly modeling a paint fume mask, holding a pack of large green chemical-resistant rubber gloves. Lovely.
With any luck, we'll get the paint and rust removed and at least put a coat of primer on it tomorrow.
Hopefully, I'll have more time and spoons available again before long.
