Here's something I just noticed in my inbox, with no subsequent correction to indicate that it was a typo. Talk about standards of service slipping...

Dear Omega Communications Customer,

As an on-going part of our efforts to provide you with the best service possible, Omega Communications will be upgrading some of the equipment in the south-west Virginia-area. The upgrade will take place on March 30, 2004 between 10am and 2pm . During this time, you may experience intermittent outages in your ability to connect to the internet, browse the web, and/or download email.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call our 24-hour Customer Care Department at 1-800-290-0461 and a technician would be more than glad to answer them.

I just went to check if my visa application has been assigned a tracking number yet; I've considered the absence of one a not-so-great sign, for some reason. Instead of going through several clicks beyond the main visas page on britainusa.com, I just pulled up the "retrieve saved applications" page.

This time, it bypassed the login entirely, and offered me some Lalin Anik person's incomplete visitor's visa application. This is the second time they've presented me with an application which has not "been submitted using the username that you logged in with." This inspires confidence.

Now, having gone through the main visas page, I see that the tracking number is still listed as "Not yet issued". Ah well.
